RMUFF ACOUSTICS — EST. 2011, BROOKLYN NY FOUNDER FILE / 001 · L. KORHONEN

A 2011 Brooklyn workshop built around one stubborn acoustical engineer — and the lab-tested gear that came out of it.

Fourteen years on, that single bench in a 200 sq ft Williamsburg shop has grown into a 41,000 sq ft Pennsylvania warehouse, a 47-person team, and 380+ commercial studios in 14 countries running our reflection filters, bass traps, and monitor isolation pads.

Same mandate from day one: every panel ships with a serialized frequency-response card, every claim survives an NRC-certified chamber.

ORIGIN STORY

From a soldering bench in Brooklyn to 380+ studios in 14 countries.

Lena Korhonen spent seven years modeling room acoustics at Bose before walking away with one conviction: that working engineers deserved isolation gear measured to a real spec sheet, not a marketing adjective. In the spring of 2011 she rented a 200 sq ft storefront on Berry Street, wired a function generator to a reference mic, and began cutting the first Reflection Pad by hand.

The RP-1 sold out of the shop floor in nine weeks. The follow-up RP-2 — the model we'd ship 100,000 units of by March 2024 — launched the same year. By 2016 we'd outgrown two Brooklyn lofts; the move to a 41,000 sq ft Pennsylvania warehouse followed in 2018, with the same serialized frequency-response card on every box.

Today the team is 47 people, six of them PhD acousticians and twelve in-house installers covering the NYC tri-state area. Same mandate. Different square footage.

RECLAIM PROGRAM

Reclaim: the acoustic-foam takeback program the industry didn't have until we built it.

Acoustic foam is technically recyclable but practically orphaned — most waste haulers won't take it, and most studios simply bin it at end-of-life. In 2019 we opened the RMuff Reclaim line at our New Jersey shop: any RMuff panel, any age, any condition, returned to us is broken down, shredded, and rebonded into RMuff Reclaim Board — sold at cost to schools and community radio stations.

In 2023 alone, Reclaim diverted 11.2 tons of studio-grade foam from landfill. The lifetime re-cover service sits alongside it: every acoustic panel we've ever shipped can be refaced at our NJ shop for $0 in materials.

    Request a pickup

Trade, integrator, or studio account? We arrange freight on panels from 4 sq ft and up. Single rooms welcome — we just batch the route.

  2. 02

    We shred, rebond, reface

Foam is shredded and rebonded into RMuff Reclaim Board. Fabric panels enter the re-cover queue — new Guilford fabric, $0 materials charge.

  3. 03

    You get the manifest

Every return ships back a diversion certificate: tonnage, source studio, and downstream use. Useful for ESG reports and LEED submissions.

If a panel can't defend its number in a chamber, it doesn't get a number on the box.
